A Contemporary Architectural Home on Waiheke Island
Nestled amongst mature native bush with sea views, Grayson House is a bespoke two-storey architectural home designed to sit harmoniously within its Waiheke Island setting. Constructed on a challenging sloping site, the project demanded thoughtful planning and close collaboration between the architect, geotechnical engineers and arborists to ensure the home was carefully integrated into the landscape while preserving the surrounding native environment.
Building with the Landscape
Respecting the natural character of the site was central to the construction process. Careful site management and engineering solutions allowed the home to nestle into the hillside with minimal impact, creating a seamless connection between the built form and its coastal bush surroundings. Every stage of the build was approached with precision, balancing architectural intent with the practical complexities of building on steep terrain.
Architectural Detailing & Craftsmanship
Clad in Accoya timber, Grayson House showcases the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define a bespoke architectural build. Expansive glazing maximises natural light while framing sweeping views of the coastline and native bush. A striking picture-frame window creates a focal point within the home, transforming the surrounding landscape into living artwork where native birdlife becomes part of the everyday experience.
The elevated upper-level deck extends the living spaces outdoors, providing a sheltered retreat to enjoy panoramic sea views and the ever-changing coastal landscape. Every material and construction detail was carefully considered to deliver a home that is both refined and enduring.
