A Hillside Renovation & Architectural Extension
Designed to maximise both space and functionality, this substantial renovation and extension transformed an existing hillside home into a light-filled, contemporary residence. Working with the site's challenging topography, the project introduced new living spaces, improved circulation and carefully engineered structural solutions that allowed the home to grow while remaining seamlessly integrated with its surroundings.
Unlocking the Potential of the Site
One of the key objectives was to maximise the potential of the existing home without compromising its footprint. The unused ceiling space was transformed into a light-filled home office, complete with a new internal staircase, bespoke joinery and a skylight that introduces natural light throughout the day.
These carefully considered additions improved both the functionality and versatility of the home, creating dedicated spaces that support modern family living.
Engineering a Complex Extension
Working with the steeply sloping site presented significant structural challenges. A new north wing was constructed below the existing home, forming a second-storey extension that takes full advantage of the natural terrain while increasing the home's living area.
The extension includes generous living quarters, a contemporary bathroom and a cantilevered deck with a membrane roof, which also forms the structural deck for the level above. Delivering this outcome required extensive excavation and carefully engineered structural steelwork to support the cantilevered subfloor while maintaining a seamless architectural finish.
